Types and characteristics of LEDs used for outdoor advertising

LED signs are very popular as an effective and cost-effective solution for outdoor advertising. Among the vast variety, you can always find and order 2-, 3-, or 4-color options. Initially, advertising products can be used to display simple actions, such as switching from one line power level to another or signaling a change in signal strength. In the latter case, three primary colors—red, blue, and green—can be used. This is an excellent option for creating large monitors with real images, as mixing the primary colors provides virtually the entire spectrum of existing shades. Four-color LEDs are less common in outdoor advertising production. In this case, yellow is added to the three primary colors, increasing their usability.

Main Types of LED Backlighting

In recent years, LED signs have become even more popular and in demand, as prices are constantly decreasing. Superjar and Ultrajar LEDs typically have a transparent housing. To increase brightness, multiple crystals of the same color are placed in a single housing. Brightness is determined by the beam angle. In larger housings (120-140°), the light is diffused. However, narrow LEDs—lasers or laser diodes—are also available. All these characteristics and qualities are taken into account by specialists when designing and creating specific signage designs.

LED signs have proven themselves to be highly effective advertising tools. They use one of three basic diode structures.

Each type has its own purpose, and each is better suited to a specific advertising structure. For example, for outdoor advertising, it’s best to choose modules rather than interior designs (clusters and strips). In rare cases, you can find premium sealed LED strips as outdoor elements.

Advantages of LEDs for Outdoor Advertising Signs

LED advertising is very popular, and so are its customers. There’s a reason for this—the undeniable advantages of LEDs:

  • Efficiency—with this form of sign lighting, you “eat” much less energy—on average, 20 times less than with neon or fluorescent lighting;
  • Reliability—they won’t close if exposed to moisture, but they also won’t burn out due to voltage instability;
  • Durability – such light sources can work for more than four years without interruption (that’s 5000 hours); if one diode burns out, the appearance of the entire structure is not affected and repairs to signs on this topic are ordered in rare cases;
  • Brightness – signs with LED modules are visible from a distance in any weather;
  • Safety – these elements cannot cause a fire. The diodes consume 12 W, which eliminates the possibility of fire when the circuit is shorted.

Illuminated advertising, light boxes, volumetric letters or roof installations, interior advertising elements made using LEDs serve faithfully for a long time, without creating additional problems and without requiring tools for repair or maintenance.
