How to open category A

There are more and more people who like to ride a motorcycle every year, but in order to drive a motorcycle, you need a driver’s license with category “A”. The category on a driver’s license is the type of vehicle that the driver can legally drive. Accordingly, if a driver drives a vehicle with a license of a different category, this is a violation of the law and is punishable by a fine.

How to open category “A”?
The training period for opening category “A” is 2. 5 months, after which exams are taken on the theoretical and practical parts, and upon successful completion, a license is issued. At the same time, if you are receiving a driver’s license for the first time, you must undergo a medical examination and provide documents confirming your normal state of health. Medical restrictions here will be exactly the same as for any other category.
The theoretical part is taken on tickets containing a total of 800 questions. Time is given 20 minutes, i. e. one minute per question. There shouldn’t be any mistakes. If an error is suddenly made, 5 additional questions are given from the topic in which there was an error, if there are 2 errors – 10 questions. You cannot make more than two mistakes, otherwise the exam will not be passed. You can retake it in a week.
If the exam is successfully passed, you can begin taking the practical part – driving. The law requires you to devote at least 18 astronomical hours to driving, but in some cases this time can be reduced.
And if suddenly after these 18 hours you do not have confidence in your abilities, then it is better to take additional lessons with an instructor and develop your skills to the proper level. The practical exam is taken on site only. There is no need to go to the city, as when obtaining a car license.

What exercises must be taken during the practical part?
In April this year, the test at the motorcycle site was changed. There is one less exercise: previously it was necessary to pass the “stop for safe boarding and disembarkation of passengers”, but today it has been removed. This is correct, since by law an inexperienced motorcycle driver (who has less than two years of driving experience) is not allowed to transport passengers.
The “oversized eight” (which was rented out until 2017, then removed) became round again.
The “dimensional corridor” has changed: a narrow section has been removed from the exercise, and now the corridor of chips is the same in width along its entire length.
“High-speed maneuvering” has also changed a little. The marking posts were removed from the side gates. A control line was added four meters before the STOP line. Also, throughout the exercise, you must demonstrate your ability to engage neutral gear by touching the ground with one (or 2) feet. The exercise is given 35 seconds.
“Snake” has not changed. It is still necessary, as before, to drive around the marking cones along a certain trajectory.
All exercises should take at least 3. 5 minutes to complete. A maximum of four demerit points may be incurred to pass the exam.
If you comply with the conditions of successfully passing the theoretical part and failing the practical, you can retake the latter within six months.

How to get category “A” if there is category “B”?
Previously, until 2013, obtaining rights to category “A” with already open “B” was simplified. There was no need to pass a theoretical exam and study again at a driving school.
However, at present, according to the law, regardless of which category is already open, a candidate for a category “A” license must undergo re-training and pass both exams: theory and practice.
This state of affairs is due to the fact that traffic rules for different types of transport are still different, and you need to know them. In addition, the rules change periodically, and you also need to be aware of these changes.
To obtain rights to category “A” if you already have category “B”, you must:
- first write an application for this category to the traffic police;
- provide a passport;
- provide documents that will confirm that training was carried out at the driving school;
- provide a medical certificate about your health status.
It must be said that it is impossible to pass exams and get a license as an external student. Since 2013, this option is no longer available.
How much does it cost to open category “A”?
Let’s look at this important issue.
The cost consists of several qualities:
- obtaining a medical certificate of health. Such a document will cost approximately 1, 500 – 3, 000 rubles, depending on the region of the country and on the institution in which the examination was carried out.
- payment for a car or motorcycle school. Here the cost varies from 15, 000 to 70, 000 rubles – this is a standard course, plus if these hours of training are not enough for you, you can study separately with an instructor or take an additional course at a driving or motorcycle school.
- passing the exam itself. Most often, self-respecting motorcycle schools do not charge extra money for this. The provision of motorcycles for the exam and the work of a motorcycle school representative at the traffic police is already included in the cost of training.
- A plastic driver’s license will cost 2, 000 rubles.
Do not forget that for driving without a license you will have to pay a fine of 5 to 15 thousand rubles. The motorcycle will also be towed to the impound lot.
Where can I get a category “A” license?
Until 2013, it was possible to study independently and then pass the exam for the category. Today this is impossible to do. Anyone wishing to obtain a category “A” license is required to attend a driving school or a specialized (which is much better) motorcycle school and provide the traffic police with the appropriate document that will certify your training, and if you decide buy category A then in this case, contact special sites. Only in this case can you obtain permission for testing (exam). Of course, if you are already a car driver, you know the rules of the road, i. e. It will only be necessary to slightly update your knowledge and remember aspects relating to the presence of a motorcycle on public roads.
