How to remove a grease stain from a silk blouse?

A festive feast, for which a woman spends a long time preparing, can turn into a real nightmare, when your favorite expensive silk blouse is accidentally damaged by a stain that is difficult to remove. How can you remove a greasy stain from your favorite silk item? You can use a professional stain remover or home remedies for cleaning. Getting rid of stains on delicate fabrics is much more difficult than dealing with stained cotton or synthetics.
Preparing for cleaning
First, remove dirt and dust from the blouse using a dry brush. After the accumulated dust particles have been removed, the brush is dipped in water and the procedure is repeated several times. Sometimes it makes sense to use a white cloth or cotton wool instead of a brush. We’ll talk about what product will remove stains from silk later. But no matter what composition you choose, you need to check it. To do this, a small amount of the solution is applied to an area of the fabric that is invisible to outsiders and the resulting effect is assessed. If the color and structure of the fabric have not changed, then this composition can be safely used.
The most effective cleaning is from the reverse side of the product. Before cleaning, place the blouse on a light piece of fabric, a towel or napkin. Then prepare the necessary “tool” – a piece of cotton wool, a cotton pad, a white handkerchief – soak it in the cleaning solution and rub first the borders of the contaminated area, and then the middle.
“Grandma’s” ways
- To remove old grease stains, use ordinary laundry soap. Rub the stained area with soap and leave it like that for 12 hours. After this, the blouse can be washed as usual.
- You can enhance the effect and speed up the process if, after soaping, sprinkle the stain with sugar and rub it a little with a brush. After a quarter of an hour, the clothes can be washed.
- Another effective detergent is ordinary chalk, crushed to a powdery state. It is applied for two hours, and then removed with a cloth and the blouse is washed.
- Ordinary table salt perfectly absorbs fat and other substances that get on silk. Salt should be poured in a small amount and immediately rubbed over the entire dirty surface. As soon as the salt has absorbed the fat, it must be removed and the next portion added. Then everything is repeated, this is done until the fat is removed from the silk. After this, the blouse needs to be washed and dried.
- A rather exotic way for our time to remove stains using bread crumbs. It is applied to the contaminated area and held until all the fat is absorbed. After this, the fabric is washed in a soapy solution.
Chemical cleaning at home
Ammonia is a universal cleaning agent that can cope with the most difficult stains. It is better to use ammonia for light-colored fabrics; traces may remain on a dark blouse. Be careful when cleaning with alcohol. Dissolve a teaspoon of ammonia in half a glass of water, then dip into the solution and wipe off the greasy area. After this, you need to place a light handkerchief or other similar fabric on top and iron it with an iron.
The best express cleaning method can be considered ammonia with the addition of glycerin and water in equal proportions. The mixture of these ingredients is thoroughly mixed, and the solution is applied to the greasy stain. After five minutes, just rinse the blouse.
For dark silk, a vinegar solution added to warm water is perfect. Just a couple of teaspoons of vinegar per liter of water is enough; you cannot leave the blouse in this solution for a long time – no more than 15 minutes is enough, then change the water and wash the product as usual.
An interesting new way is to soak your blouse in Coca-Cola for two hours. Connoisseurs will confirm that this drink is a real cocktail of chemical elements. Fans of this method enthusiastically claim that Coca-Cola can remove even old greasy stains.
