Trends in Eyeglasses and Contact Lenses

Contact lenses, like eyeglasses, have long ceased to be purely medical devices and have become fashion accessories that reflect all the latest trends and changes. Today, users choose contact lenses not only based on the prescription strength, material, and manufacturer, but also on whether they fit this season’s fashion trends.
Colored contact lenses
First and foremost, fashion trends revolve around colored contact lenses, which can be subtle or radically transform a person’s appearance.
Based on their effect on appearance, there are three types of colored lenses:
- those that match the color of the cornea;
- tinted lenses, which change the base color by no more than 20%;
- colored lenses, capable of giving the eyes a new color.
Over the past two years, models that change not only the color but also the size of the eyes have been in high demand.
More and more popular actresses and other celebrities are using colored lenses not only in movies or on the runway, but also in everyday life.
Fashion brands and models
The use of contact lenses not to correct nearsightedness or farsightedness, but to create visual effects or alter one’s appearance has primarily captured the interest of young people who aren’t afraid to experiment. Many of the trending models feature unusual effects or properties.
- The hottest new trend is beauty lenses from Johnson & Johnson, such as the 1-Day Acuvue® Define® model, which is designed for daily replacement. These are tinted lenses, meaning they subtly alter and enhance the natural eye color, making it more saturated, clear, and vibrant. In addition, beauty lenses got their name because they increase the pupil’s diameter by a few millimeters. This is enough to visually enlarge the eyes while keeping them within natural proportions. While in Europe these options are still the preserve of celebrities and a small circle of users, in Korea they are a favorite makeup item among young people of all genders. Their popularity is so high that vending machines are installed in all retail outlets and crowded public spaces.
- Alcon Fresh Look products are just as popular, with a range featuring over 10 color options. Models in this series are distinguished by their rich color, which completely masks the natural color of the iris. Popular colors:
- honey,
- green (2 shades),
- hazelnut,
- blue (3 shades).
- Among the more unconventional youth, it’s trendy to use Adria productsAdria in unconventional colors, such as white, charcoal black, or with unusual patterns on the iris. These products are sold in major Kryolan cosmetics stores and are intended for holidays, masquerades, parties, and other occasions to have fun and shock the public.
- Another youth-oriented option from Adria is neon lenses, which look too bright in daylight and glow in a dark room. Despite this unusual effect, the products are safe for your health, as the colored layer on both sides is enclosed in a laminated shell and does not come into contact with the cornea.
- The Aurora Pink models from JennyBee are currently trending; they have a pinkish tint and shimmer when exposed to light. This interesting design has been enthusiastically received in Korea, while in Russia they currently need to be specially ordered through online stores
all of the models listed are available with or without prescription; in the latter case, the packaging indicates “plano.” These products are chosen to complement makeup or, conversely, makeup is created to match them.
